Here is yet another variation on the well-established theme in late Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque art and literature, of the worship of female beauty. In this literary tradition which has classical roots but a much stronger foundation in late Medieval courtly love, the lover becomes a vassal, servant, slave, prisoner, or worshiper.
